Steering Wheel with Integrated Horn Wiring

Here are pictures of the extra horn wire everyone cuts off.   The problem is that the brass contacts that you see must touch the contact ring on the steering wheel.   But, it most likely won't.  The black pipe does not come up far enough on the steering shaft so the plastic bushing ends up about 1/2 to 1 inch away from the steering wheel.  A 1/2 to 1 inch brass bushing (with plastic on the inside to prevent grounding) placed on the shaft between the pictured white and brass bushing and the steering wheel, will solve the problem.  If wired this way both the dash horn and the steering wheel horn button work.
Plastic bushing with contacts with screw lined up with black tube mounting hole.
Remove screw before pressing bushing into place.
Use a large deep well socket (1 1/8") to press into place.
Insert and screw in the mounting screw.  Run the green horn wire up through the hood grommet.
Attach wire to brass contact ring.
Horn wire attached.  Determine extra brass bushing size ( 1/2" to 1") needed to fit between these contacts and steering wheel contacts.   Line inner part of bushing with plastic or PVC or other insulating material.  Mount on steering column, before installing steering wheel.
Mount steering wheel.
Insert steering wheel wires onto internal horn switch terminals.  It doesn't matter which wire goes to which terminal.  Press internal horn switch into steering wheel and the job is complete.
